It is Toure and Toure only. The man who single handedly sent city a kiss away from the title after 44 years with his sublime touches. Now a week and QPR stand between City and the championship. The tears in the eyes of the 3000 city supporters at St. James Park spoke the unspoken words. The two generations have passed and City now on the brink of repeating history after the 2-0, away win against Newcastle.
Newcastle was the only obstacle on the path of championship which city overcame with late second half goals by Toure. The mood was becoming pensive after an hour of goal drought. Many fearing the draw would ensure an upper hand for Manchester United. It is then the big player took charge and proved their mental again. The trio Aguero, Silva and Toure played like champions with their calm composer and balance.
It was 20 minutes from time when they got their first lead. The initiative came from Yaya Toure. He collected the ball in midfield gave it to Aguero who put it on a right position only for Toure to do the scoring. The gap between the post and Tim Krul was cunningly measured when he made the perfect placement of the ball. The goal was visual a delight and the celebration got better with the lead.
City could have got another two when both Aguero and Toure got one on one with Krul. While Aguero put it beside the post, Toure slipped on the penalty box. It could have proved to be costly as plenty of time was left for Newcastle to make a comeback in the game but the clever substitution of Micah Richards into the game by the City Coach Mancini was a game changing tactics. He chased Ameobi throughout the remaining time and blocked one crucial kick to help city breath.
As Newcastle moved further into the attacking zone, City got the second goal on fabulous counter attack. Aguero made a superb run to the penalty box and passed it to Clichy who found Toure on the dead ball zone and he made no mistake to find the back of the net. The match was sealed with this kick and also secured their firm ground on the title race.
What possible difference can Manchester United make now? First they have to win against Swansea and then something extraordinary display of football has to be played to reduce the goal difference. But that is probably a wishful thinking. It is now City’s time to endure another 90 minutes to dethrone the champions. The countdown has begun and the sound of the bells is just a whisker away.
