It has been a long and hard wait for us United fans after the fact that we lost the title to our neighbors on the last day, and to top it all up, on goal difference. After such a long wait it would have been ideal to watch the team start the season with a win. However that was not to be, and Everton managed to bring us back to earth immediately. Losing the first game of the season to the very same team which probably cost us the title was something I was not looking forward to.
The summer singings seem pretty good and promising, but I still feel that we could have done with atleast one or two defenders a little early on. The recent singing of Alexander Buttner from Vitesse is a bit assuring. However, if we had managed to get him on board a little quicker, he might have been able to fill the gap in defense. Our defense seems to be growing more and more injury prone. Consistently playing out of place players at defense is not helping the defense nor the positions that they should have been in. Jonny seems to be getting out of injury and might also have a slim chance of featuring against Fulham.
We will be taking on Fulham, who have started their campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich this Saturday. This would also be our first home game of the season and hopefully we can start off the winning ways. I would also love to see RVP starting with Rooney, and hopefully both of them can emulate their goal scoring abilities of last year.
Fulham last won again United in 2009 at Craven Cottage, and they haven’t beaten us at Old Trafford since 2003. I pray that history doesn’t change this time around. It is definitely not going to be a walk in the park for United as Fulham are coming back with loads of confidence on a 5-0 win as to United’s 1-0 defeat. It is going to be a tough test for United tomorrow.
