Last week we saw Rooney get dropped from the starting XI against Fulham, and quite honestly I did not feel the absence so much. RVP seemed to link up with the midfield seemlessly and his touch doesn’t seem to have been lost. His first home goal was absolute beauty. Kagawa impressed during the match too. However I would still love to see Rooney and RVP starting together but that might be sometime coming as he is the former is sidelined for over a month after the injury during last game.
There seemed to have been a rumour that Rooney might be on his way out of Old Trafford, but he was quick to confirm that it was all a rumour and he was here to stay.
Manchester United will be taking on Southampton this Sunday at St. Mary’s Stadium. The newly promoted Saints did not have an ideal opening to their campaign. They lost 2-0 to Wigan and gave away a 2-1 lead against city to finally end the match on 3-2. They will be desperate to get a win under their belt, which means it won’t be an easy outing for the Red Devils. Southampton would be hoping to get the African Cup Golden boot winner Mayuka to start this weekend if they get the registrations done on time.
Manchester United on the other hand will be looking to get their first away win for the season. Although the midfield and the attack seem to be going good for United, the defense still looks shaky. Evans might make his comeback to the side this weekend, which will be a little reassuring. Apart from Rooney there doesn’t seem to be any other new injuries for United, and hope it remains the same. The starting XI might remain unchanged, apart from Evans coming in for Carrick if the former is match fit.
