If the news coming in from England newspapers is true then United are linked with a potential move for Benfica and Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan. United have been interested in the midfielder since 2011, and recently when they played in the Champions League Sir Alex Ferguson seems to have been impressed by the 24 year old.
However the problem area might be the £45 million buyout clause that has been fixed by Benfica. Reports suggests that United are willing to pay anywhere between £20 to £25 million, along with 2 players likely to be a part of the deal. Macheda, the 20 year old striker is on a loan to QPR and so far has failed to impress anyone. He might be sold permanently to Benfica, while Fabio might be on his way to a season long loan, to get some first team action on a regular basis. Gaitan is being represented by Jorge Mendes, who was responsible for Ronaldo and Nani coming to united.
This news has been received with a mixed reaction from the fans, with a huge section of the fans backing Eden Hazard. The 21 year old Lille playmaker also has been under United’s radar for sometime now.
It is still early before the transfer window opens, but Sir Alex Ferguson might want to close the deal at the earliest, since a few other clubs also seem interested in the midfielder.
