Madrid wins Europa League

It’s Madrid of a different kind. The city which is known for storing the European Cups has added another one last night when Athletico Madrid steam rolled the Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to win the prestigious Europa League. The all Spanish battle saw the Madrid club seal the match riding on the bravery of Columbian star Radamel Falcao. He scored two and became the highest scorer in the completion with 12 goals. It is Athletico’s second Europa League in three seasons.

Romanian capital Bucharest witnessed a fine display of football from the Spanish club which continuously tormented Bilbao’s defense and put up a brilliant show. The first half early goals by Falcao almost set the fate of the match. The crushing run and the volleys left the fellow Spaniards confused and disappointed. The charm which they earlier had in the competition was missing in their football.

Bilbao started aggressively in the second half but failed to cross the Madrid’s defense line. The repeated ruthless attack by the Falcao and Diego pushed them back in their defense line. The striker who was responsible for last year’s win for Porto in the final did not disappoint in the final and successfully rose to the expectation. The last minute firing from Diego scripted the victory and opened the celebration for the club.

The sidelines also observed the battle of the two Argentine coaches. Athletico’s Diego Simeone had played under the Bilbao’s Marcelo Biesla for several years. The young Argentine outplayed his mentor on and off the pitch. The game strategies and ball possessions proved his mental over his rival coach.

“I am grateful for this moment that few players have the chance to experience, grateful to all the team, my colleagues, the coaching staff,” Falcao told Spanish TV. It was great night for the Columbian footballer.

It is barely 12 months that he has set his first footsteps on the club’s field and now entered into the club’s history books. It won’t be surprising if he plays for other big clubs in the near future as the potential and the passion within will definitely place him in the top position. The striker surely knows how to find the net or precisely the art of converting the probable.
