Spend he must if Wenger is to drive the club forwards

Spend he must if Wenger is to drive the club forwards.

Wenger, the head man at Arsenal known for his shrewdness as well as being tight with the purse strings, needs to up the ante this summer with the likes of Ray Parlour commenting that the Gunners need to sign ‘three of four’ quality players. With Wenger stating that he is out to make ‘big signings’ little is yet to be seen from the Frenchman with the few deals in place falling short of the mark. The days of find the cherries on a shoestring budget seem to be a distant thought and Arsene is going to have to dig deep and be prepared to spend if he is going to add depth as well as the experience and quality needed to the Arsenal side.

With rumours flying around the London side, namely Rooney, Suarez, Fellaini as well a Higuain it seems that the budget is going to be one of the largest we have seen from Arsenal in quite some time. That is if they are not going to lose out to the like of Real Madrid, where it is also rumored the they have piped Arsenal in the race for Suarez as well as Higuain, however anything about this is yet to be clarified by the clubs themselves.

Arsenal have so far signed French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free from Auxerre. The 20 year who has already suffered a serious injury in the 2010/11 season is yet to prove himself, with his previous club record not saying too much about the player. It is thought that he is set to come in as a replacement for Coquelin Arsenal number 5 as Coquelin is being sent on loan to Freiberg.

It seems that the squad appears to be lacking in experience as well as confidence on the ball. With the likes of Gervinho who could be considered a decent player lacking in the final ball possibly due to confidence lacking. Whilst Gervinho could be given an exit light ahead of the start of the season. Wenger nevertheless needs to tackle this issue upfront, and adding the likes of Rooney or Suarez to the Gunners first XI could be the medicine that is needed to drive the club onto a trophy win the first in many years.

Whatever the solution at the club, Wenger will have to dig deep and dig deep this summer. It has been too long since we won anything of any serious consideration, the talent is out there, and with a price that must be paid. The days a signing the likes of Fabregas on a free are a distant memory. Mr. Wenger, this is the 21st century, the club needs to move forwards and performance is everything.
