Everton out to stop United

Manchester United takes on Everton this Sunday. Kick off 22nd April 5pm at Old Trafford.

Everton are currently sitting on the 7th position with 47 points and just above Liverpool. They would be trying their best to at least stay there, since with just 4 games remaining till the end of the season it doesn’t look like they can hit the 6th Spot. The fight for the last Europa league spot will go down till the last match this season. Last week they lost to Liverpool with a late goal during the FA cup semi-finals. This can actually be a positive result for them, since now they do not have to worry about fatigue or injuries, had they been in the final. They will now be more determined to showcase a good performance and do best in each of their remaining games. They have also been in a good form for the past month, winning 3 out of 4 and drawing 1.

The last time the two sides met was back in October which United won courtesy Javier Hernandez’s goal. Manchester United are currently sitting comfortably 5 points clear of City, and with just 4 games till the end of the season. Manchester United will be heading to Etihad with one hand already on the trophy. If both the Manchester clubs win this Sunday, then 30th April is going to be nothing less than a Champions league final. If City beats or draws United then, United might have to wait a week longer for the trophy to be handed over. However if United beat City that day then United will be crowned the Champions for the 20th time at the Etihad.

There might not be any change for United squad from last week’s game against Villa. Everton would be glad to have Steven Pienaar back, since he was cup tied last week. But they would have to do without left back Leighton Baines. Nikica Jelavic would be a man to watch, as he has been quite impressive since joining Everton scoring six goals so far. Ex United player Darren Gibson too has been in good form since he joined Everton in January. Accordingly to the player “Some people would say I failed at United, and towards the end, I wasn’t playing my best. So I’ve come here to start showing people how good a player I am. I wouldn’t say I failed; I’d say I never got the chance I wanted.

Wayne Rooney has only scored twice in eleven league games against his former employers. He will definitely be looking forward to set that record better this Sunday. Everton haven’t won at Old Trafford since 1992, and United have only lost twice this season at home.

All the roads seem to be leading to Etihad for the match of the Season.
